Matthew Toth and Julio Majia, products of the melting pot that is South Florida, are the DJ duo GTA. Jokingly referred to as “Miami’s #1 Salsa Band,” they lay no claim to the gaudiness that is South Beach, the sound that drives these wunderkinds is the grit and grime of downtown Miami.
Adhering to a “Death To Genres” theme omnipresent in every record they break, play, and listen to, the two don’t fall into a specific genre and utilize their musical creativity to keep a diversity of listeners and audiences attentive.
Their genre-defiant music draws the attention of many, and the appetite for the duo’s music is whet worldwide. “Turn It Up,” a collaborative effort with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike went to #1 on the DJ resource and taste-making content hub, Beatport. Another collaboration, with Mad Decent head honcho Diplo titled “Boy Oh Boy,” went straight to #1 as well, but this time on the fan driven blog aggregator, Hype Machine. As of late, “The Crowd,” “Bola” and “Yolohton,” came out on Calvin Harris’ label Fly Eye Records, and the pair have been on remix duty includes work on projects for Kylie Minogue and Kaskade.
Asked to tour with the enigmatic Rihanna, GTA has been given the opportunity to spread their #DeathToGenres ethos to over a million fans in 2013 through six continents.
Following the second leg of the Rihanna tour, GTA rocked Australia’s premier festival Stereosonic before supporting Calvin Harris and Tiesto on their UK arena tour, aptly named the ‘Greater Than Tour.’ After covering the globe in 2013, early 2014 will see them take their talents across North America as they embark on their #DeathToGenres headline club tour.
